The Full Moon of May 31st takes place at 1:44 am PT and arises at 9° of Sagittarius, illuminating our hunger for meaning and our longing to expand into the new territory of thought, of vision, and of the questions yet to emerge as we face our changing world. With the Moon in the sign of the fiery Archer opposite the Sun in the Air element, with Gemini, we find ourselves at a threshold between knowing and wondering, between the answers we’ve inherited and the ones still forming at the evolutionary edge.
The realm of Gemini is having a profound moment, with Uranus newly entered into its airy journey there, while the Sun and Mercury made their first crossing on the planet of Awakening in mid-May. During this Full Moon, our vital and mental energies may remain concentrated there, alive with restlessness and inquiry. New questions have been surfacing, and unexpected avenues of thought, flashes of insight or revelation that may have arrived over the past few weeks and are still reverberating. Something is being rewired in the way we think, communicate, and receive information, and this lunation invites us to look at what has already begun to stir.
At this Full Moon, Uranus is at two degrees of Gemini and conjunct both Sedna and Ceres, a signature that speaks to what moves beneath the surface. Sedna, dwelling in the outermost reaches, asks us to reckon with what has been submerged or long forgotten. Ceres, the great nurturer, asks what we are truly feeding ourselves with. Together in Gemini with Uranus, they bring into focus the question of information as energetic currency. In an era of relentless input and ceaseless noise, this lunation invites a re-invention: what information nourishes and sustains life? What drains it, diminishes it, or perpetuates harm? Our attention, we are reminded, is not a passive thing. It is a powerful offering to what we hold as true and valuable. May we learn to give it with intention and care.
The ruler of this Full Moon is Jupiter, currently moving through its exalted home in Cancer, and what a gift this placement is! Jupiter in Cancer draws us into greater contact with our heart space, with our emotional generosity, with the quiet but essential work of tending to our inner lives. In times as wild and trying as these, this expansion of feeling is an act of courage. Though their orb at the moment of this lunation is wide, we can look ahead with anticipation, because in early June, Venus will form its conjunction with Jupiter in Cancer, one of the most genuinely lovely transits of the year. It asks us to soften, to heal, and to locate the emotional resilience and sustenance that keeps hope alive. To invest in the ways of being and seeing that keep our hearts oriented and resilient, even as the world around us continues its upheaval.
The Sun’s position also anchors a grand air trine with Juno and Pluto in Aquarius, and trans-Neptunian object Makemake in Libra — a configuration that hums with the energy of metamorphosis sweeping collectively and individually alike. Pluto in Aquarius continues its long work of dismantling and reimagining humanitarian structures, technological systems, and the social contracts we have inherited. Makemake, whose archetypal significance, per Henry Seltzer’s ongoing research, points toward earth guardianship and environmental orientation. Juno, the asteroid of devotion and sacred commitment, is perched with Pluto, and together these celestial energies all ask us something essential: what are we truly devoted to? What, in this time of profound change, is meaningful enough to stand for? Saturn in Aries, making a sextile to the Sun and Pluto, while opposing Makemake, sharpens this question into something more personal and urgent. We are asked, now, to meet our authentic truth with dedication, responsibility, and accountability.
Indeed, this Full Moon continues to find us in the stormy wilderness of the transformative times in which we are living. But the Archer, Sagittarius, reminds us to point our awareness, point our attention, point our arrow toward the vision, and toward the deepest sense of meaning we wish to inhabit and see blossom in our world. May we all have the resilience, the support, and the emotional fortitude to continue to navigate lovingly through these gusty winds of change.
